Why You Can Feel Drained—Even When You’re Fit and Healthy

Yes, you read that right. I was just laying on the couch when a wave of laziness, tiredness, and straight-up exhaustion washed over me. I glanced at the clock—5:45 PM. What the heck? How could I feel this drained so early?

I recently started a new job, and it’s been a whirlwind. I went from working out in the mornings to squeezing in movement at night. The job itself is fast-paced with little downtime, so meals have turned into grab-and-go bites and finger foods—when I remember to eat at all. Then after work, my three children keep me on my toes and run whatever battery is left out of me.

I really wondered why I felt so drained today. Why were my eyes being pulled shut against my will?

And the truth is: I haven’t been eating properly these past few weeks. And that matters.

Even when we’re fit, healthy, and “doing all the right things,” small shifts in our routine—like starting a new job, changing up our workout schedule, or not getting enough nutrients—can really affect our energy levels and mood. Our bodies are constantly adapting, and when we’re under-fueled or over-stimulated, even the strongest among us feel it.

This exhaustion wasn’t laziness—it was my body waving a little red flag. A reminder that health isn’t just about moving our bodies or checking off a workout. It’s also about rest, nourishment, and making space for new routines to settle in.

So if you’re feeling off, don’t be so quick to judge yourself. Tune in. Ask what’s changed. And give yourself permission to slow down, re-fuel, and adjust.

Because even the go-go-go girls need to pause sometimes!

When routines change—new jobs, new schedules, new responsibilities—our bodies and minds feel it. So here’s a gentle ritual and routine you can use to keep yourself in check when you start to notice mood dips or energy crashes:

Take 5–10 minutes to sit quietly with yourself and ask: What has changed in my routine lately? How is my body feeling right now? What am I not giving myself enough of? (Rest? Food? Movement? Stillness?)

Journal or voice-note your answers if you can. Then drink a glass of water, herbal tea, or something nourishing—slowly. Visualize it bringing life back into your body. Chamomile or lemon balm tea is great for calming, while ginger or peppermint can help with digestion and clarity.

Ask your body what kind of movement it needs today: a slow stretch, a walk outside, or nothing at all—and that’s okay too. Listen without judgment.

Next, plan one balanced meal or snack. Something with protein, healthy fat, and carbs—even if it’s finger food. Think hummus with veggies and crackers, a boiled egg and some fruit, or a smoothie with greens, banana, nut butter, and chia.

Finally, light a candle, touch your heart, or take a few deep breaths and say: “I am allowed to recalibrate. My energy is sacred, and I choose to nourish it.”

Life will always shift—but you don’t have to lose yourself in the process. Rituals like this help bring you back to your center, gently and powerfully.

So when your self-awareness kicks in and you start questioning how you can regain your positive energetic mood back, this post was for you! Happy Monday, lovelies. Enjoy the rest of your week! ☺️
