Did you know a meta-analysis concluded that core strength training is a key factor in fall prevention? Something as simple as core strength could be the thin line between staying on your feet and suffering a serious injury.

Story time!

The first night we brought our RV home, I took a nasty fall. The RV has three steps leading up to the entrance, and as I stepped down, my foot slipped right through the top gap. In an instant, my body lurched backward—my hip and butt slammed onto the second step while my upper half thrust downward toward the concrete.

Instinct kicked in. My core immediately engaged, trying to control the fall. Even though I still hit the back of my head on the concrete pad, I know it could have been much worse. If my core hadn’t reacted the way it did, I might have suffered a far more serious injury.

This experience was a stark reminder: core strength isn’t just about aesthetics or fitness—it’s about real-life stability and injury prevention.

Building core strength and balance isn’t just beneficial—it can become your best friend in both workouts and daily life! Here are a few simple yet effective exercises to strengthen your core and improve stability:

✅ Single-Leg Knee Holds – Stand tall and slowly lift one knee up to your belly button, holding for a few seconds before switching sides. This move stretches your glutes and thighs while challenging your balance on one foot.

✅ Jackknives – A great way to activate your core and improve proprioception (your body’s ability to sense movement and positioning). Lie on your back, extend your arms and legs, then bring them together in a controlled motion. This exercise enhances coordination and strengthens your core.

✅ Starfish Reaches – Lie flat on your back with arms and legs stretched wide like a star. One at a time, bring your hand to meet the opposite foot straight above your belly button. Keep your core engaged and focus on generating power from your center with each repetition.

These are just a few of the many exercises that help strengthen your core, enhance coordination, and reduce the risk of accidental falls. Start incorporating them into your routine and feel the difference!
